Case Study

Bott + Co is an award-winning consumer law firm based in Wilmslow. With over 80 employees they had established links with the High School in the past through sponsorship of the rugby team and were keen to work with the High School again.

When the Business Partner programme was launched we went to speak to them about available opportunities.

Bott + Co has chosen to work with the High School for several reasons:

  • They want to give something to their community, and have chosen to sponsor the Rugby, Football, Netball and Hockey teams across all age groups, as well as to support the Trampolining and Tennis squads.
  • They are interested in meeting students who might work in their business in the future. They offer work experience for a number of students (via interview) each year.
  • They have attended Careers Days at the High school which take place twice a year and are attended by students across all year groups.
  • They have been invited by students to come and talk to them about legal careers.
  • They have attended Aspire High and Apprenticeship events to share information about their Apprenticeship programme as well as encouraging students who are considering the law as a career.
  • They have supported Law students as they competed (and won!) in the Magistrates Mock Trial and Bar Mock Trial national competitions.

Paul Hinchliffe, MD of Bott + Co

“Our involvement with WHS works on many levels.  We see it not only as a marketing opportunity, but as a chance to meet and recruit young people who have an interest in our business.  With funding an issue for schools across the UK, accessing funding from local businesses works for everyone involved and we are delighted to be able to support our local community in this way.”

James Pulle, Head of WHS

“Whilst we have businesses that are keen to work with us, having a framework which enables us to speak to them about specific projects and provide them with a list of identifiable benefits enables us to start the conversation much more easily. With a reduction in funding, local businesses working with us to provide anything from sponsorship to work experience, whilst themselves enjoying the rewards of this connection, is a very positive step and it is easy for us to manage. As a school, our focus is, obviously, the education of young people. The BP Programme enables the school to provide extra benefits to students that would otherwise be impossible.”
